How to verify your ID on MyConstant (KYC)

date September 10, 2019 time 4 min read

To comply with Anti-Money Laundering (AML) regulations, we need to verify your identity. This is often called KYC, which stands for Know Your Customer. KYC helps us protect you from fraud and other illegal activity.

To deposit, transfer, or withdraw fiat currencies (like USD) you must first pass our KYC — and this guide will help you do that.

(Please note KYC is not currently required for digital currencies like stablecoins.)

What we need from you

To pass KYC, you need to submit some identity documents. It’s extremely important you submit the right type and in the right format.

We need three document types to verify your ID:

  • Proof of Identity,
  • Proof of Address, and
  • A current picture of yourself

Your documents meet the following criteria to pass the KYC process:

Proof of Identity

  • Must be a Driving License, Passport, or ID Card.
  • The ID number should match the number provided in your application on the MyConstant website. If you are a US citizen, the ID number will be your Social Security Number.
  • Document should include your full name, a photo of yourself, and your date of birth.
  • Image should be well lit and focused.
  • Document should be cropped around the edges and include all required information.
  • Front and back side must be submitted.
  • Image must be in BMP, JPG, JPEG, or PNG format and no larger than 10MB.

Proof of Address

  • Must be a bank or credit card statement, utility or phone bill, mortgage statement, home or life or car insurance letter, or financial statement.
  • Electricity, Gas, and Water utility bills are acceptable but not Internet and TV bills.
  • Document must be issued within 90 days of the current date.
  • Address must match the address provided in your application, including all shorthands and abbreviations.
  • Image must be well lit and in focus.
  • Document should be cropped around the edges and include all required information.
  • Image must be in PDF, BMP, JPG, JPEG, or PNG format and no larger than 10MB.

A picture of yourself

  • Take a portrait photo of yourself and upload it to KYC.
  • You can use your phone camera or upload one from another source.
  • Follow general rules for a passport photo. No hats, glasses, etc. Make sure the image is focused and well lit. Make sure your whole face is in the image.
  • Image must be in PDF, BMP, JPG, JPEG, or PNG format and no larger than 10MB.

Step-by-step instructions for KYC

Step #1 Enter your ID details

Once you’ve signed up and verified your email address, start the KYC process from your account settings.

Fill in the fields as shown above. Once you’ve chosen a specific ID (in the example above, it’s a driver’s license), you need to upload images of the ID and an image of you holding the ID (a selfie).

Step #2 Upload images of your ID

The easiest way to do this is with a mobile phone. Place your ID on a table in a well-lit area and then take a photograph of your ID from above. Make sure it’s close enough to see all the information clearly.

Once you’ve taken the images, upload them via our mobile app or transfer them to your computer and then upload them via our website. We accept BMP, JPG, JPEG, or PNG file formats and each image must be less than 10MB in size.

When taking the picture of yourself holding the ID, set a timer on your smartphone’s camera. This will give you time to position yourself and keep your hands steady. Or, ask a friend to take the picture for you.

In the examples below, we require the front and back of a driver’s license as well as a picture of you holding the ID.

Step #3 Upload proof of address

Again, the simplest way to do this is with a mobile phone. Find a bright area and place your proof of address flat on the table, with the issue date and address clearly visible. This address must match the one you entered in Step #1.

Important: We can only accept a bank or credit card statement, utility (except TV or internet bill) or phone bill, mortgage statement, home or life or car insurance letter, or financial statement. It must also be dated in the last 90 days. If you upload anything else, it’ll be rejected.

Finally, submit proof of address

Photograph your proof of address and upload it via the mobile app or transfer it to a computer and upload it through the website. Again, it must be less than 10MB in size, and in BMP, JPG, JPEG, or PNG format.

Step #4 Wait for your KYC to be processed

After submitting proof of address, our custodian Prime Trust will verify you.

If you’re based in the US, this might take a week or two depending on how many customers submit at the same time.

If you’re outside of the US, verification takes a little longer as there are extra checks involved.

In either case, we’ll email you as soon as you’ve been verified.
